Highlights of the 2nd Graduate Interdisciplinary Session

The 2nd Graduate Interdisciplinary Session of MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School held on Campus Manufacture – Université Saint-Etienne – from 8 to 12th July 2019.

Florence Garrelie, Scientific Coordinator of the MANUTECH SLEIGHT graduate School and Director of Laboratoire Hubert Curien (UJM, CNRS, IOGS), introduced this 2nd event on Monday, 12th July

MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School thanks the Programme d'Investissement d'Avenir (PIA-ANR) and Saint-Etienne Métropole for financial support.
We also thanks the GDR APPAMAT for their collaboration in the organization of this 2nd week, with a special thanks to Mathieu HEBERT, director of the GDR, for his strong involvement in the organization of the courses on "Material Appearence" and the Pitch session.

Participants of the 2nd Graduate Interdisciplinary Session

18 hours of courses on "Material Appearance" with the following lecturers

  • Gaël OBEIN (Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris);
  • Mathieu HEBERT (Institut d'Optique Graduate School et Université Jean Monnet, Saint-Etienne);
  • Christine ANDRAUD (Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris);
  • Sophie JOST (ENTPE, Lyon);
  • Jenny FAUCHEU (Ecole Nationale des Mines de Saint-Etienne);



Scientific workshops on the 3 scientific axis

The leaders of these 3 axes chaired these sessions (Jean-Philippe COLOMBIER- Laboratoire Hubert Curien -UJM/CNRS/IOGS, Marc SEBBAN - Laboratoire Hubert Curien -UJM/CNRS/IOGS and Laurence VICO - Laboratoire Sainbiose - UJM/Mines Saint-Etienne/INSERM).
15 speakers presented their projects. Most of them received a financial support by MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School within the two calls for proposals (2018 and 2019).

Session of PhD presentations

Raphael CLERC and Sophie JOST chaired this session. PhD students shared their works during an afternoon.
A special jury deliberated to award prizes for the best contribution, the special prize of the MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School, and the special prize of the GDR APPAMAT.
The laureates were:

  • Rui Jian CHU (Université de Poitiers)

Session of "Master student presentation"

Mathieu HEBERT chaired this session. Master's students were invited to make a very short presentation (pitch) on their intership's project.
A special jury of the MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School deliberated to award on prize for the best contribution.
The laureate was Fanny DAILLIEZ (Institut d'Optique Graduate School - Laboratoire Hubert Curien)

Cultural Outing


A visit of Musée d'Art et D'industrie de Saint-Etienne (www.musee-art-industrie.saint-etienne.fr) organized by the GDR APPAMAT.

Social Event

The MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School organised the Social Event at the site Le Corbusier (https://sitelecorbusier.com/). It was a nice moment to discover this Unesco site during a guided tour of Cultural Center and Church Saint Pierre.
