MANUTECH SLEIGHT GRADUATE SCHOOL

The MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School, coordinated by Université de Lyon and managed by Université Jean Monnet in Saint-Etienne, provides an international integrated MSc/PhD program and offers an extremely favourable environment for training and cross-disciplinary research in the domain of Surfaces Light EngineerinG Health and SocieTy (SLEIGHT).

The MANUTECH partnership was born in Saint-Etienne in the 2000s from a pioneering work of ultrafast laser surface texturing for the mechanical components in competition engines. With a fast dynamic of research and development activities, the consortium was strengthened in 2010, with 7 partners from Saint-Etienne/Lyon and notably through the creation of EquipEx MANUTECH USD (2011) and LabEx MANUTECH SISE (2011) (both financed by National Program “Investissement d’Avenir”).

Today, MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School is based on solid foundation:

  • A pluridisciplinary partnership with international recognition of research activities in the domain of Surfaces Light EngineerinG Health and SocieTy (SLEIGHT) localised on the site Saint-Etienne and Lyon in France;
  • Attractive graduate programs favouring interdisciplinary cross fertilization (International Master programs, PhD programs) within a very pleasant learning environment;
  • A dynamic and favourable socio-economic ecosystem for innovation through the valorization of scientific results and economic development (with Industry and for start-up creation);
  • A strong international partnership.

MANUTECH SLEIGHT Graduate School proposes an integrated and interdisciplinary research and educational program for 10 years and aims at promoting:

  • International, and interdisciplinary training program from Master to PhD, and travel opportunities within a broad international network
  • Integrated training through access to the latest scientific knowledge in world-class research laboratories and industrial R&D centers, with dedicated Graduated Interdisciplinary Sessions
  • Transverse skills modules allowing mind opening as required in any scientific or technological innovations
  • Scientific and technological innovation facilities

Partnership

The project will gather a strong consortium of 13 partners from Saint-Etienne and Lyon, including 8 Academic institutions, 2 Research organizations and 3 companies. The 8 research laboratories’ activities are in optics-photonics, materials science, mechanics, data science, imaging as for instance for medical and bioengineering (as in orthopedic or ophthalmology domains). Moreover, the project is based on firm bases of EquipEx MANUTECH-USD (Ultrafast Surface Design) and LabEx MANUTECH-SISE (Surface and Interface Science Engineering).
